First Impression is definitely a big Impression !!

As they say, the expression one wears on one's face is far more important than the clothes one wears on one's back. You would have heard a zillion times the saying "Frist Impression is the best impression". If not the best it definitely is a big leap in that direction. But the important question is, how do you go about making that first impression. Is it not all about what you wear, it is all about how pleasing you are in front of others.

Actions always speak louder than words, and a smile helps boost your action by miles. It conveys a message to the other person that you like his/her company, you are glad to see him/her. This is a big opening as far as any channel of communication is concerned. This could open avenues, which you would have otherwise thought was impossible to pursue. A simple example is the case of a new born baby. No matter how dejected or angry one is, the very sight of a smiling baby would definitely bring a smile on your face. And that feeling is most refreshing to tell you the least. So anyone and everyone becomes happy and relaxed when they see a smile. So make sure that the smile is always present on your face when start a conversation.

Say take the case of attending an interview. No matter what the pressure might be that you are going through, never showcase that to the interviewer in front of you. Always put forward a smiling face and it will automatically make you relaxed. This is no rocket science, and I am sure anyone can do this. The results would amaze you. Initially it might be difficult, you might have to bring that smile onto your face deliberately. You might be going through a lean phase, testing times in your life, but what good is it going to do by bringing that on your face. Everyone has their own loads of problems. They really dont like to entertain people who are going to add onto those burdens. They would anyday prefer someone who can lighten them up, and the best way to convey that to the other, is by simple smiling. Just practice smiling always, and after the initial week or two of deliberate smiling, then on it will come automatically to you. And then on, most importantly, your actions would also incorporate that smile. You will feel more relaxed, start thinking with a cool mind, leading you to make more sensible decisions in your life.

So take this is as an assignment, for the next 15 days beginning today you will always have a smile on your face, no matter what you are going through. When you go out for your routine jog smile at everyone who comes your way. And please remain rest assured you might not even get a return smile from even 10% of them. But repeat the same for the next day, and the next, and the next ... until one day the other person is forced to smile back. Once he/she does that he/she will realise how relaxing it is, and believe me the next day before you smile it would be that person who smiles at you. Believe me, this smile thing is contagious ;-))

After 15 days you will realise how, this very small exercise, has changed your life for good. You will have more friends, you will start doing better in your job, you will have more happier time with your family, your subordinates start respecting you more, your boss will start taking you more seriously etc etc - the results could be multifarious - but all for the good. If you ask me what is the first, read not most, important thing in your job hunt, I would say your resume. Yes, that is something which conveys that very important first impression. Before you even decide to restructure your resume, make sure that you have the following ideas clear cut in your mind

Type of Job you want
The skills you want to use on a daily basis as a part of your job
Two or three jot titles that encompass the above
Type of company you want to work for & the preferred industry
